You can still enjoy the Greek cuisine of days gone by and the typical island variations on Amorgos. Classic Greek salad and souvlaki, stands with gyros and pita abound but in the taverns in Katapola, Chora and Aegiali you should try: horiatiko, oven baked veal with carrots, beans and peas and kaseri, Amorgos cheese; exohiko, oven baked lamb, vegetables, tomatoes and fillo dough; kalogiros, eggplant, veal, kaseri and baked tomatoes; fasoulada, bean soup with fried anchovies; maridaki, small fried fish splashed with lemon. They are all typical island dishes.
