International Music and Dance Festival (June 23 to July 9)

It is the most important summer event in Granada. This long-held manifestation has its origin in the concerts at the Alhambra during the end of the 19th Century, which saw the participation of the most representative artists from Granada, like Garcia Lorca, Manuel de Falla and Santiago Ruisiñol. Today the festival includes different genres and it unfolds in the Palace of Charles V, the gardens of the Generalife, the Albaicín and the Sacromonte. Spectacular backdrops for an event you cannot miss!

International Jazz Festival
Part of the Europe Jazz Network circuit, the European network of festivals dedicated to jazz; a historic show that since 1980 welcomes the best musicians of the international scene.

Jazz en la Costa (Jazz on the Coast) (from June 14 to 23)
The most important Andalusian jazz festival unfolds in the middle of summer in the Majuelo Park, at the Almuñécar, 80 km from Granada. It is a breathtaking scenario: while you face the Mediterranean you listen each jazz variation there is masterfully interpreted by internationally renowned artists.

International Tango Festival (March 5 to 9)
It is a rendezvous that has been organized for over 20 years by the Community of Granada for all those passionate about this musical genre. It happens in Plaza Bib-Rambla and the Theater Isabel la Católica. The shows start at 20:00. Other artistic manifestations during the day complete the rich program of this festival.

Día de la Toma (Day of the Capture) (January 2)
It is the festivity that remembers the capture of the Alhambra by the Catholic Kings after seven centuries of Moslem rule. It is Granada’s most important celebration. The Royal Chapel hosts the religious activity with the waving of the banner, el Pendón, which is preserved inside the chapel together with the remains of Queen Isabel and King Fernando.  


Cabalgata de los Reyes Magos (Ride of the Three Wise Men) (January 5)
It goes back to the 19th Century, one of the oldest Spanish festivities. The procession indicates the arrival, to Granada, of the Three Kings; the course starts from Calle Rector López Argüeta and finishes at the Plaza del Carmen, in front of city hall¬. It is a spectacular cortege with horses and camels and carriages from which sweets and candy are thrown.


Festivity of San Cecilio (February 1)
Wide, music and typical dance accompany the morning of the first Sunday of the month, celebrating the festivity of the patron saint San Cecilio with the pilgrimage of the municipal cortege that ends at the Abbey of Sacromonte. If you wish to participate, do not forget to taste the salaillas, Granada’s traditional salty bread.
