How To Move Around, Spain
On foot. We recommend going on foot in Granada. Walk the city and discover the Alhambra and Albaicín, passing through the neighborhoods of the ‘new city’, admiring palaces and monuments, letting yourself be charmed by the suggestive gardens of Generalife; or you can use the bus and enjoy different sceneries.
Buses. Efficient and truly comfortable, the service goes from 6:30 to 23:00. The units are recognizable due to their red color; numerous tourist routes are served by line 32 (Granada old-Alhambra), 31 (Albaicín) and 30 (Plaza Nueva-Alhambra). Line 3 goes to the great shopping center of Gran Vía and Plaza Isabel la Católica. The cost of a single-route ticket is €1; if you want to make more than one trip, we suggest you purchase a pass for only €5.45
Taxi. Moving within the city’s perimeter by taxi is comfortable but can be expensive; a green light on the roof of the unit indicates the taxi is free. The taxi stop is in Plaza Nueva, close to the Palacio de Justicia.
Car. We do not advise going downtown by car, since in fact many historical districts are closed to private vehicles; the administration strictly protects the environment as well as the city’s historical and monumental patrimony. It is better to leave the car in a public parking lot and continue on foot, or rent one to visit Granada’s surrounding areas, rapidly reaching the coast or the Sierra Nevada; car rentals are decidedly convenient.
