Barcelona Cathedral

Barcelona's main Gothic building was built between 1298 and 1460, even if the facade was only added in the 19th century based on a 1400 design. The interior is majestic and ornately decorated with Gothic sculptures and paintings, with a pretty ambulatory covered by a pointed dome. Do not miss the Sala Capitular, crypt of Santa Eulalia and interesting cloister. Hours: every day 8.00 a.m.-1:15 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.-7:30 p.m.

Gaudi's Sagrada Familia

This is probably Barcelona's most famous sight. This impressive modernista cathedral is the most famous work of Antoni Gaudì, in part due to the fact that it has not been completed since the death of the architect. Gaudì worked for the entire final part of his life on this creation, applying all the architectural solutions he invented in its design. The facade and crypt are on UNESCO's World Heritage List. The towers can be visited by taking an elevator. Guided tours: every hour from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.: Nov.-Apr. 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. Groups: Tel: +34.93.208 04 14 or pedagogia@sagradafamilia.org Subway: L2/L5, Sagrada Familia

Santa Maria del Mar Church

This gem is the most representative building of the Catalan Gothic style. It was built in the 14th century as the church for the shipowners and merchants of Barcelona. It differs from French Gothic churches due to its own Catalan style and strikes visitors with the extreme lightness and cleaness of its forms. The church stands in the center of Ribera (El Born), one of the most charming quarters of the historical center.

Santa Maria del Pi Church

Another pretty example fo Catalan Gothic style, it greets visitors with its large rose window in the facade. The church overlooks one of the lovliest squares in Barri Gotic, enlivened everyday with street markets, street artists and outdoor cafes which are perfect for a break.

Monastery of Pedralbes

This is a 14th century monastery complex founded by Queen Elisenda de Montcada, who lived here in seclusion after the death of her husband. Don't miss the queen's tomb in the Gothic church, the capitular room, the harmonious three story cloister and the splendid chapel of Sant Miguel decorated by Ferrer Brassa in 1343 based on Italian Gothic models. Where: Baixada del Monestir, 9. Subway: L6, Reina Elisenda
