Carl Davis launches our Eastbourne season with a cascade of stateside classics, opening with the swashbuckling overture to Bernstein’s satirical musical Candide. Then come two utterly contrasting musical views of America: the spacious open landscape of Copland’s depiction of a rustic wedding in the Appalachians, and Gershwin’s bustling bluesy cityscape. Barber’s moving Adagio precedes a rip roaring finale, the rhythmically infectious symphonic dances from Bernstein’s musical West Side Story. Join us as we launch the season with a bang!
