Buckingham Palace, United Kingdom
Built in the 18th century, it only became the Queen's palace in 1837, when Queen Victoria moved there.
Buckingham Palace is closed to visitors except in August and early September when the Windsors are not in residence. You can visit the 19 State Rooms, including the Throne Room, Picture Gallery and Ballroom, ornately decorated with paintings, tapestries and works from the Royal Collection. The Changing of the Guard ceremony takes place every day at 11:30 a.m. from April to August, and on odd days during the rest of the year. Get there early if you want a place in the front rows.
Hours: 9:30 a.m.-4:15 p.m. everyday from Aug. to Sept. Tube: Green Park / Victoria
