Cannes How To Get Here And How To Get Around, France
Cannes is easily reached by car from the A8 tollway. From Italy, on the other hand, you would take the A10 Autostrada dei Fiori. By plane, the Nice International Airport (NCE), which is 24 km southeast of Cannes, has excellent connections with the major French and international cities. The airport has taxis, car rentals and shuttle buses to the center of Cannes and many other Côte d'Azur resorts.
For those who must continue on by train, the number 23 Vallon des Fleurs bus provides transportation from the airport to the center of Cannes and stops at the Saint Augustin train station: trains leave from here for many Côte d'Azur destinations.
The most enchanting way to arrive in Cannes is, probably, by sea: in addition to being an important port of call for cruise ships, it is also a charming destination for recreational craft: for example, spectacular yachts and sailboats can be seen in the marina of Port Canto or the nearby Port La Napoule. In addition, there are many fascinating excursions from Cannes to the nearby islands and seaside resorts such as Saint-Tropez and Monaco.
Cannes is a city that can be comfortably visited on foot, while public transportation is provided by the Bus Azur system, with lines that depart from the center of town to the train station and the beaches. For an unusual way to see the Croisette and the sea, take the number 8, open-top double-decker bus, which offers a scenic, open-sky experience without the stress of having to drive. The region's Mediterranean climate makes using bicycles and motor scooters very pleasant and they can be rented.
For a lovely panoramic view of the city, you can take the little tourist train. The tours pass by the principal points of interest of Cannes and are available in 8 languages, including English: you can take the Cinema Tour, which departs from the Palais des Festivals, offers a history tour in the old Le Suquet quarter and/or a jet-set tour, or the Croisette Tour that traces the paths of international movie stars. Then, you can see the grand hotels in the belle époque buildings, Palm Beach, the boutiques of Rue d’Antibes, the yachts of Port Canto, the casinos...
In Cannes, the important thing is to go over the top.
