Santorini has an efficient international airport where charter flights from all over Europe land from May through September. Five daily Olympic Airline flights connect Santorini to Athens and connections also run to/for Mykonos, Crete, Rhodes and Thessaloniki. The airport if 8 kilometers from Thira, the island's capital, and provides bus (20 minute ride), shuttle and taxi services.

By boat
Ferries for Santorini leave Piraeus (the port of Athens). There are many daily departures during the summer. Hovercrafts and catamarans sail from Rafina, 30 km from Athens. Santorini is 130 nautical miles from Piraeus. Ships take nine hours to reach the island with intermediate ports of call (usually Paros, Naxos and Ios). Blu Star line ferries take seven hours while hovercrafts and catamarans only 4/5 hours. Only take the hovercrafts and catamarans when the Meltemi is not blowing. Otherwise, you may have to stop at a different port of call or wait out the weather in port. The port of Santorinin is in Athinos, 10 kilometers from Thira that you can get to by shuttle bus (even at night) or by taxi.
