Monfalcone is especially known for the major shipyards of Fincantieri, and for its port situated in the commercial area of Lisert, where Roman Baths once stood. However, the surrounding area also makes this industrial city interesting on a touristiclevel: Found in Southern Friuli in the province of Gorizia, overlooking the gulf of Trieste, a few kilometers from theRonchi dei Legionari Airport and close to the Slovenian border, modern Monfalcone is found in an area rich with tourist resources and landscapes that are still pleasant to visit.

Monfalcone has some important cultural realities: The Teatro Comunale presents a full season of music, drama and children's shows, the first-class Modern Art Gallery represents Friuli-Venezia Giulia through AMACI (Associantion of Italian Modern Art Museums) and the Cultural Consortium of Monfalcone documents and values the traditions and historical heritage of Monfalcone.

Despite the destruction caused by the Great War, Monfalcone has some enjoyable ancient monuments and historic buildings such as the Roman Baths and the Archaeology of Roman Villas, as well as places of worship like the Duomo, the Church of San Nicolà, the Church of the Rosary, the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Marcelliana and the ruins of the ancient Church of San Polo.

Monfalcone is situated amongst the fertile countryside of isontina, the plateau of Carso and the Adriatic Sea with the lagoon of Grado. There is also the DOC wine regions of Collio and the Isonzo river, where small farms and old villages like Cormons and Dolegna are found. From here tourists can enjoy picturesque rural landscapes that have wonderful food and wine and cycling paths, ideal for combining movement and wine tourism. The province also includes nature trails such as the Natural Reserve of the outpouring of the Isonzo River, a wonderful bird oasis populated by hundreds of species; or the natural reserve of the Lakes of Pietrarossa and Doberdo, which è are fed with stormwater and groundwater. The plateau of Carso is a favorable area for trekking, mountain biking and climbing, as well as for a trip back into time thanks to its many trenches and passageways dating back to the First World War.

The Speleologist Museum, which takes its name from the medieval Rocca Fortress, the symbol of the city of Monfalcone, organizes documentaries and excursions dedicated to the Karst, an impressive geological modeling of the rocks caused by erosion. On the karst hills, you can also visit the ruins of the Castellieri, ancient fortifications on strategic hills, or you can study many botanical species.

Other interesting places to visit include the Thematic Park of the Great War, that exhibits and catalogues the cavities, grottos and caves used in this war. A moving testimony of that tragic period in time can be found at the massive Military Memorial at Fogliano Redipuglia.

A public beach equipped with seaside and tourist structures is situated a few minutes from the center of Monfalcone. This beach stretches from Lido di Staranzano to Marina Julia up to Bagni di Panzano (or "Marina Vecia"), a quiet and secluded island and a perfect spot for families with children. On windy days, this sandy shore, characterized by a low and sandy seabed, is a perfect place for windsurfing and kitesurfing.

The Isonzo coast, historically equipped with nautical clubs, is a strategic shore for those sailing in the Adriatic Sea and for those who want to sail towards Istria, Coratia or even Greece.
