New year in Rome
Celebrating new Year in Rome means endless choices of things to do.
Most hotels and restaurants in Rome offer typical New Year menus for New Year's Eve celebrations. In addition to this, there are tens of parties organized all over Rome, in charming locations such as villas and old palaces.
Anyone wanting to celebrate New Year in the open air in Rome can go to the most famous celebrations that are held in and around Piazza del Popolo.
Fireworks and rock concerts are planned right through the night.
If you prefer a quieter solution in a charming environment, then try going to the typical Roman city center quarter called the quartiere di Trastevere: here too fireworks will be set off in the squares, in this corner of authentic Rome.
Like every year, a classical music concert will be held in Piazza del Quirinale in the presence of Italy's President and most members of the government, who will wait for the clock to strike midnight to toast the New Year 2010 in with all the people present.
The Rome subway will stay open for longer hours to ensure that people can get to the shows and concerts organized around the city, such as: museums open, rock concerts, classical and symphony music in the auditoriums and in the city's squares.
