Festival of Suvereto

In the first days of December, Suvereto, an ancient medieval city, tucked between the hills and a stone throw from the seal, is home to a festival that blends a rich program with the various forms of local cooking, events, shows, cultural initiatives and folklore.
This is the Festival of Suvereto, the most important event in the Maremma region during the winter months. The medieval castle, vineyards, city hall, fortress, Cloister of San Francesco, city walls and towers are a fascinating backdrop for top quality shows, suspended between the past and present.
The Festival is perfect for gastronomic connoisseurs with stands in the historic center starting with the large grill and special dishes made with wild boar, the most important ingredient in local cuisine. You can get lost among the stands of typical products and there are also interesting theme dinners at the event's official restaurants.
Historic reenactments, flag wavers and archers are typical aspects of a town that has over a thousand-year old history. At the Festival of Suvereto, you can watch the Archers Joist and local Flag Wavers demonstrations.
But the most anticipated event is the traditional Historic Court show. The reenactment depicts the "Charta Libertatis", or the concession of the Town of Suvereto by Count Ildebrand VIII degli Aldobrandeschi in 1201. The Charta Libertatis gave Suverto the right to make legal decisions, buy and sell land and have its own military.

The official start of the Festival is set for Sunday, November 28 2010 and will continue until Sunday, December 12 with a full calendar of events.
