Siena: Visiting Siena, strolling through the alleys and streets of the historic center, is like diving into the Middle Ages. As you walk from the church of San Domenico to the main square of the Campo, you can feast your eyes on the historical palace and museum of the Monte dei Paschi bank, Saint Catherine's house, the medieval fountain called Fonte Branda, the Cathedral and its museum, the ancient hospital of Santa Maria della Scala, and the Palazzo Pubblico.
And you can feast your palate on the wines of Siena in the best wine cellars in the city and the wonderful cured meats made from the native hog, called the "belted pig" because of its unusual markings, available only from breeders in the Sienese countryside.

Siena, the Contradas, the Palio: Visit the churches and museums of the 17 Contradas of the city. On July 2nd and August 16th, they compete for the banner of victory, the Palio, in the world-famous horse race run in the Campo.
