London has thousands of cabs, divided into black cabs and minicabs.

The black cabs are one of the symbols of London, famous throughout the world for their unique black look. Cabs are free when the yellow sign on the top is lit. Minicabs are an inexpensive version of the black cabs. They are normal cars which by law cannot be stopped on the street; you must telephone one of the many private companies which manages them. They do not have a meter so it is best to agree on a price before the drive. For women traveling alone, there is Lady Cabs, which only uses women drivers (Tel. +44 020 7272 3300).
