Hyeres, France

In St.-Tropez you can see many custom-built cars, but no pink flamingos or sea lilies, while in Cannes you can walk down the Promenade de la Croisette, but you won't explore natural marine reserves. In Hyères, an ancient Provençal town on the sea in the southernmost point of the Côte d'Azur, and in the "Golden Islands", Porquerolles and Port Cros, the main attractions are not so much the appearance and worldliness as they are the sun, uncontaminated nature, relaxation, sports and the experience of a vacation with family and friends, taking a break from stress at the most affordable prices.

While the international regattas and gigantic cruise ships depart from its port, the seaside establishments, the entertainment spots and sports centers in the gorgeous natural setting of the peninsula of Giens and the Golden Islands of Hyères offer plenty of outdoor recreational activities from water sports and beach life to amusement parks and nightclubs.

If you prefer the mainland, you'll be able to take a nice walk in the shadow of palm trees in a garden or along the boardwalk, lingering in the artisan shops, boutiques, traditional Provençal restaurants, cafes and fish markets, visiting the charming medieval part of the city, enjoying a beautiful view from the hill and looking for early Provençal produce in the plant and flower market.

If you would rather explore the seafloor in search of underwater wreckage or take a submarine trip, you will be pleased to know that the islands of Hyères are one of the most sought-after and best equipped destinations.
