Ortisei, Italy

Over 1,200 meters above sea level, Ortisei is the most important and the most highly populated city in Val Gardena. An ancient commune, popular tourist attraction with a pedestrian center rich in beautiful shops and restaurants where you can try the local culinary specialties.

Accessible by a convenient cableway, Ortisei is the gates to the Seceda and Alpe di Siusi ski areas. Furthermore, many paths and routes start on its streets. The one along the old train tracks that leads to Santa Cristina Val Gardena is especially enjoyable.

Almost all the ski lifts lead to thrilling view points, often over 2,000 meters high, where the mountain reveals its exhilarating nature. We suggest the Rasciesa chairlift, the cableway to Furnes and the one to Seceda, where you can admire Sella, Sassolungo and all of Val Gardena.

Entering the heart of Ortisei, the Val Gardena Museum, the local St.Ulrich church and the Sant’Anna chapel, dating back to the sixteenth century near the small cemetery are worth a visit. Also enchanting is San Giacomo and its fifteenth century church – the oldest in the valley - with a magnificent carved wooden altar.

Great food awaits you in Ortisei. Each mountain dish - canederli, speck, polenta, mushrooms and bauerngröstl (a specialty with eggs, speck and vegetables) - is expertly prepared. A true delight for your palate.

If you're looking for relax and fitness, the modern Mardolomit center offers pools - indoor and outdoor - and a sauna next to the ski lifts. A great cure-all where you can relax in inviting and comfortable settings after a day on the slopes.
