Santa Cristina Val Gardena, Italy

Surrounded by uniquely beautiful mountain settings, Santa Cristina offers its visitors old mountain huts and country homes in a romantic atmosphere that lights up the ‘pale peaks’ at sunset.

From the top of its 1,428 meters, Santa Cristina is the ideal home base for skiers and hikers, but it is also great all year round for those who like to relax in the mountains. Facing Sassolungo, it is connected to Monte Pana, Ciampinoi and Col Raiser by cableway.

From downtown, the easy walk down the paved roads will take you to the Ulёta and Praulёta masi*, where you can enjoy the magnificent view of Sassolungo. On foot from the latter, walk through the woods on the path from Monte Pana to Plan de Cunfin and the Vicenza hut (careful, the path is rather steep!).

The chapel dedicated to Santa Cristina, with an old Romanesque style bell tower and the remaining part of the Gothic style building, is worth a visit. Inside, the beautiful altar dating back to the seventeenth century was created by the dynasty of local artists, the Vinazer.

* maso is a rural house typical of Trentino Alto Adige. It usually includes a hayloft, barn and small kitchen where cheese is made.
