Peschiera del Garda Peschiera Del Garda, Italy

Peschiera del Garda is one of the most renowned tourist destinations on Lake Garda. With over 40 hotels, 10 of the largest and best-equipped campsites in the Riviera degli Ulivi, bed and breakfasts and apartments, the town responds to the varied needs of the visitor.

Its name dates back to the Longobardic era, when the water's rich abundance of fish caused them to change the Latin place-name, Arilica, to Piscaria.

They built the castles - Longobardi, Scaligeri, Carlo Magno, and Berengario - but unfortunately no traces of these remain today. However, there are still urban remains that came from the time of Venetian rule. Among these there is the celebrated fortress and the impressive city walls in a pentagon shape, which were erected in the second half of the 1500s by the architect Sanmicheli on the plans drawn up by Guidobaldo Della Rovere. They are still in a good condition today.

Today the ramparts and alleyways in the centre host shops, restaurants, and bars. Along the shores of the lake, there are facilities for watersports.
At a distance of 2 kilometres from Peschiera, there is the Santuario della Madonna del Frassino, a monument of national importance. The façade dates back to the 1500s and inside there are 10 chapels embellished with remarkable frescoes.
