Piran, Slovenia
Piran is a pearl on the Istrian coast, an ancient town of Medieval origin jutting into the short segment of sea that bathes Slovenia. Primary salt supplier for the Venetian Republic, today Piran is a wonderfully fresh and enchanting vacation spot that looks over the Gulf of Trieste and Croatia from its promontory, providing a breathtaking perch-top view.
Along the narrow Istrian stone alleyways that climb to the cathedral, the Gothic and Baroque architectures of this picturesque village provide magnificent views over the red roofs descending to the tip of Punta Madonna and its small lighthouse. Piran is the birthplace of musician Giuseppe Tartini, to whom we owe the famous ‘Devil's Trill Sonata’ and after whom the main square is named.
Once you've been to Piran, you'll want to return to its enchanting and peaceful embrace, protected by the silent sea and friendly people.
