Even with a glitch, wonderful experience

The hotel is lovely, minute but well thought out in every detail. The staff are so kind, welcoming you by name and very helpful with places to eat and things to do that are not the tourist traps.

Venice has changed a lot since I was there in 1996 and 1987 and the crowds and prices are beyond belief. But this hotel is so well priced for the luxurious, attentive place that it is that one wonders how they can make it work.

There are only 6 rooms and the palace is beautifully restored and kept-up. We had the smallest room, tucked against a small inner courtyard - it was therefore a bit dark but beautifully decorated, included a small fridge and lovely little bathroom (shower only).

The night guard was so sweet and kind to my daughter (everyone was very kind to my 9 year old).

Sitting on the terrace in the early morning, looking at the Grand Canal and the Rialto before the tourist hordes arrive was a joy - watching the deliveries to the hotels and restaurants, the Fish Market...the boat delivering wine was my favourite!

What did you enjoy most about your stay?
The location - right by the Rialto but tucked down a small alley so very quiet and removed from the hustle and bustle.

What did not meet your expectations?
Although I booked 7 months in advance, there was a problem with the last night's accomodations and the hotel was double-booked. I am not sure why we were the ones to be inconvenienced as opposed to the other couple, but we had to change to the sister hotel: the Locando Orseolo. The owner, Matteo, was very apologetic and made all the arrangements to move the luggage. I chose to see it in a positive rather than a negative light - mistakes do happen.
